Thiess wins $105 million contract for Goodna plant upgrade

INFRASTRUCTURE for the Goodna Water Reclamation Plant in Ipswich will be upgraded under a contract awarded to construction company Thiess.

Queensland Urban Utilities, the water business owned by Ipswich and four other south-east Queensland councils, awarded the $105 million contract to Thiess as part of an expansion program to cater for the population.

Thiess managing director David Saxelby said he was pleased the company could continue to play a pivotal role in providing vital water infrastructure to support the region's growth.

"This is the second wastewater project that Thiess is working on with Queensland Urban Utilities," he said.

Queensland Urban Utilities CEO Noel Faulkner said the upgrade was part of a record $268.9 million capital works program for 2010-11 and essential in helping meet the demands of a growing population.

The upgraded plant will have a capacity of nearly 20 megalitres of wastewater per day compared to the current 13 megalitres of wastewater.

The plant's upgraded treatment processes will also deliver a higher quality of reclaimed water back to the environment.

Construction is set to begin in October 2010 and expected to finish in late 2012.
