IPSWICH Rangers believe they can beat anyone in the Barber Cup.
Now they just have to prove it.
Rangers captain Cade Hill rated last week's 20-13 defeat by Wynnum a big improvement on the previous round's loss.
"We played for three quarters of the game with 14 men," Hill said.
That was after hooker Zan Branford was sent off for striking.
"We held our own," the 26-year-old personal trainer Hill explained.
"We were pretty much the dominant side and led for the majority of the game. But playing with 14 men took its toll and they overpowered us near the end."
It helped convince Hill Rangers can match it with anyone if they can eliminate the poor periods in games that have cost them.
"Every team we've played so far – we know we can beat them," he said.
"We've got to be more aggressive and show more intensity, which we have shown in patches. In patches we're awesome and have got it over every side in the competition."
Rangers have improved significantly from last season but so has the competition in general.
"The whole competition's very close," he said.
Rangers are currently fifth on 11 points, eight behind the top four – Wynnum, Pine Rivers, Goodna and Springfield Lakes) who remarkably are all on 19 points.
Hill rated Wynnum, followed by Pine Rivers as the teams to beat this season, while Springfield Lakes might just have the edge over local rivals Goodna.
Rangers take on second from bottom Beenleigh at Woodend tomorrow evening at 6.30pm but Hill knows his team will have to work hard to earn victory.
Rangers host Redcliffe on the Pegg Cup from 5.10pm, UQ1 and in the Scotney Cup at 3.50pm while their colts travel to Wynnum.
In other matches, Goodna travel to Everton Park to play Brisbane Irish in Barber and Pegg Cups while Springfield Lakes take on the students at Gatton.
