The Great Race from Goodna to Southbank. Which is faster - the boat or train?

The Great Race from Goodna to Southbank.

Which is faster  - the boat or the train?

The race starts at 7.00am on Friday 19 June 2009 from Goodna Boat Ramp at Noel Kelly Drive Goodna.

The race is on in earnest to determine which is faster from Ipswich to Brisbane - the Rail line or the Brisbane River.

At 7am tomorrow (Friday), the River 949 Breakfast crew  - Ruby and Dave - along with Goodna Councillor Paul Tully are in the race of their lives, to determine which is faster - the boat or train.

The finish line is the Coffee Shop at the corner of Grey Street and Little Stanley Street Southbank.

Dave is going by speed boat and Ruby and Paul are planning to catch the 7.04am train from Goodna Station about 1km from the Goodna Boat ramp.

They will get off at Roma Street and head to Southbank by foul means or fair!

The State Government and the Transport Minister Rachel Nolan have been praising the virtues of the SEQ Rail system.

Now, this is the ultimate test.

Is rail faster than boat for the 24km journey.

Paul Tully says: "I'm backing the train by a whisker to settle this long-standing argument between the people of Ipswich."
