A new security camera has been installed by Ipswich City Council at Goodna on Woogaroo.

The new camera is located at the corner of Woogaroo St and Peel St near the RSL Services Club.

Local Division 2 Councillor said the new camera would complement existing cameras on the Ipswich Motorway, Brisbane Rd, Mill St, Queen St, Church St and Smiths Rd Goodna.

"This latest camera will monitor the area north of the Goodna Railway Station and along Woogaroo St from Layard St to George St."

Cr Tully said the camera overlooked the Evan Marginson Park.

"Live images are sent via a fibre optic cable from Goodna to Ipswich where they are monitored 24 hours a day."

Cr Tully said Goodna became the first place in the world in 2000 when suburban security cameras were remotely monitored for the first time at a central city location via a 16km fibre optic cable.
