Update on the Woogaroo Trunk Sewer Main Project, which involves the construction of a 4.7 kilometre gravity trunk sewer main in Goodna, Bellbird Park and Springfield.
Once complete, it will quadruple the capacity of the existing sewer main servicing the area.
Works for the project reached a milestone last week with all tunnelling along Parker Street at Goodna now completed.
Over the coming months, we will be finishing the works at the three shaft locations on Parker Street. This will include, welding and grouting in the sewer pipes, pipe testing, construction of a maintenance access hole (within each existing shaft), backfilling the shaft to close it, and then road resurfacing prior to opening the road.
The next section of tunnelling will start from an access shaft, which is currently being constructed, on vacant land near the cul-de-sac end of Eugene Street at Bellbird Park.
Parker Street, Goodna
It is planned that works at the shafts on Parker Street near Breezeway Court and near Edna Street will be completed by around March 2012, although the project team is working towards an earlier finish date, weather permitting. Once these works are complete, the road will re-open at these locations.
An extension to the current sewer upgrade project beyond Parker Street is currently in the design phase. This will involve extending the new sewer main by around 500 metres, starting from the shaft on Parker Street, near Mill Street. The alignment of this new section of sewer main will travel north across Mill Street, through Leslie Park and across to the opposite side of the Ipswich Motorway, where it will connect to an existing sewerage pumping station.
Once the design for this section of the project is complete and a construction schedule is known, an update will be provided.
It is anticipated that the Mill Street end of Parker Street will be closed for a few weeks during March 2012 to allow construction of the final section of the project.
