Levee bank and gates being examined to minimise Ipswich CBD flooding

PIC: Marsden Parade Ipswich where a flood proof gate is being considered.

Ipswich City Council is examining a proposal to flood proof the Ipswich CBD.

A technical and financial feasibility is underway to examine the plan.

Ipswich Planning and Development Chair Cr Paul Tully said the plan would flood proof the Ipswich CBD from most but not all floods.

"The proposal could see a floodgate at the Marsden Parade railway underpass and a levee bank on top of the existing outer edge of the railway reserve.

"The current study is examining the engineering feasibility of this concept," Cr Tully said.
