Green light given for green waste bins in Ipswich

Ipswich City Council has given the green light for the new kerbside green waste wheelie bins to start collections in September.

Council has received a strong response from residents wanting to use the new bins for grass clippings, garden prunings and other garden trimmings.

Green waste bins will be collected fortnightly, for a service fee of $12.50 per quarter, which works out to be less than $1 a week.

It is estimated that a kerbside green waste collection service could divert about 15 per cent of domestic waste from landfill.

Ipswich green waste bins are purpose-built for storing organic matter as they include vents to maintain air flow and reduce any potential odour.

If you would like to register for the green waste bins, go to the Ipswich City Council websitehttp://www.ipswich.qld.gov.au/ or contact Ipswich City Council on 3810 6666.
